CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
ACE is usually used for the diagnosis and monitoring of the progression of sarcoidosis, where 50% to 80% of patients have high ACE results. ACE levels increase and decrease in response to corticosteroid treatments and regular testing can provide useful information for timely medical decisions. High ACE levels are observed in cases of scleroderma, Gaucher’s disease, leprosy, alcoholic cirrhosis, active histoplasmosis, tuberculosis, pneumonic embolism, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, hyperthyroidism, amyloidosis, primary biliary cirrhosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
